Rector
Andy has been Rector of Calvary Church since February 2004. His job is to hold out a vision for the parish about how we live out our calling to make God’s love visible in downtown Memphis. He coaches the staff and parish leadership for this work; leads in worship, preaching, and teaching; and shares with the other clergy in providing pastoral care for parishioners.
Ordained in 1975, he has served churches in Naples, Florida, Shaker Heights and Painesville, Ohio, and Virginia. At the time of his move to Memphis, he was Rector of the historic Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach, a large parish known for its education, youth programs, and outreach.
Andy is especially interested in the hopes and questions people bring with them today when they explore a possible relationship with the Church. Look for a chance to attend Calvary’s Practicing the Faith class with him to learn about how twenty-first century Episcopalians live their faith.
Andy is a graduate of Randolph-Macon College, the Episcopal Divinity School (Cambridge, Massachusetts), and Virginia Theological Seminary, where he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in 2000.
Andy and his wife Sybil have two adult sons. He is the author of Dearly Beloved, a book to help couples plan a wedding in the Episcopal Church.
Youth Ministries
Eyleen
joined the Calvary staff in February 2006. Intrigued by Andy
MacBeth’s vision of youth ministry as the work of the entire
congregation to win young people to faith, Eyleen left her chaplaincy
work with Methodist Hospice where she had been since 1995. She
views this unexpected turn in her ministry as a “wild adventure
and a rewarding challenge.” Her role is to identify, equip,
and support adults in the parish to help youth grow in Christ. Youth
ministry, as she sees it, is not about just keeping kids in church. It is about meeting them where they are and then inviting them to
journey to places they have not been before. “I am convinced
that teens are capable of great things,” she says, “and
I want to be a part of what God is up to in their lives.”
Eyleen also shares responsibility with her colleagues for worship
leadership, preaching, teaching, and pastoral care.
Eyleen received her Master of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt University in 1992. She was ordained in the Baptist Church at Prescott Memorial in 1994. She also has a Bachelor’s degree in history and a Master of Arts in Teaching, both from the University of Memphis. She was confirmed in the Episcopal Church in 2003 and ordained to the priesthood in January 2007.
Born in Colorado, she is a long-time Memphian and raised her two children here. She is married to Episcopal priest Tom Momberg, an associate rector at Church of the Holy Communion. A source of great delight to Eyleen is being “Grandmom” to five grandchildren all of whom live in Memphis.
Young
Adult Ministries & Outreach
Bonnie loves to “pray the Eucharist.” She says, “When I say the prayers for Holy Communion, I have a profound sense of the presence of God with us and the abundance of God’s love for us.” She has special interests in inter-religious dialogue, mystic spirituality and social justice. Bonnie also loves Bible study and preaching. “I believe that our scriptures are relevant today. To understand the Bible we have to enter into dialogue with the scripture and the people of faith who have gone before us…and be a little creative.”
As the Associate Rector for Young Adult Ministries (YAMS), Bonnie hopes to provide a home for young people—and the young-at-heart—to explore questions of faith and grow in friendship with God. She enjoys ministry with people of all ages, but knows that a young person with no children sometimes has difficulty finding a niche in a community of faith. Bonnie loves the community of young adult seekers at Calvary, whose willingness to ask challenging questions and engage in innovative worship make ministry fun.
Bonnie also coordinates outreach ministry at Calvary with the help of many, many Calvary parishioners and community members who are committed to serving Christ in all persons.
Education and Pastoral Care
George served Calvary as Interim Associate to the Rector starting in the summer of 2002. Beginning in May of 2004, he became part of the permanent staff serving as Associate to Rector Andy MacBeth. In addition to serving as clergy liaison to the Faith Formation Ministry Group, he offers clergy support to the Adult Christian Education Committee, the Youth Ministries’ Coordinator, and the Children’s Ministries’ Coordinator. As clergy liaison to the Pastoral Care Ministry Group, George coordinates the leaders of pastoral care. With the clergy, the rector’s assistant, the Pastoral Care Teams’ leader, and the Eucharistic Visitors’ leader, he helps arrange pastoral care visits to the sick, shut-in, and those in need of support in life transitions. Because of his concerns for God’s justice in the wider community, he serves on the board of the RISE Foundation, combating economic exploitation and predation in Shelby County. George also serves as Chaplain to the Young Adult Ministry of Calvary. He shares with his Calvary clergy colleagues in preaching, teaching, pastoral care and other ministries of the parish.
An avid reader of fiction, psychology and myth, George always has a book in his briefcase. His passions include the study of the historical Jesus and historical Paul.
George is married to Susan, and has two daughters, Abby and Cory.

The Rev. Deacon Audrey Gonzalez
Assisting Clergy
Audrey Gonzalez is a native Memphian who was ordained deacon in the Anglican Church in Uruguay. Her focus is on working with juvenile delinquents and children in detention. She is a volunteer probation officer, a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for children) volunteer and the chaplain of Reconation Academy, the girl's prison. Among other things, she is working toward a Masters of Fine Arts in Poetry.
Assisting
Clergy
Since being ordained a deacon in 1994, Mimsy has served at Calvary Church, Church of the Holy Communion, St. Thomas, Somerville, and St. James, Bolivar. She enjoys a strong affiliation with the Diocese of West Tennessee, serving as Secretary of the Diocese at Convention and at Bishop and Council.
In her ministry, she seeks above all a wise balance between activity and contemplation. Having been immersed in outreach ministry for years, both before and after ordination, she recently has concentrated on the interior life. She was deeply affected by the training she received with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, finding peace and joy in the presence of children experiencing Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd.
Mimsy believes in the value of silence and stillness and has had the delight of working with the Calvary ECW in planning weekend retreats, and with other Calvary women in forming St. Clare Retreats, monthly silent retreats for women. Mimsy says, "I also have become absorbed in studying and interpreting Holy Scripture, and continue to be inspired by the privilege of 'teaching' women in Bible study."
