Wednesday Nights: Adults

April in the Great Hall

Book Journey: An Altar in the World

In the tradition of Brother Lawrence’s The Practice of the Presence of God and Kathleen Norris’ The Quotidian Mysteries, Barbara Brown Taylor’s book, An Altar in the World, examines the presence of the sacred in the everyday. This group will read about Taylor’s experiences of encountering the sacred in her life and look for ways to do the same in our own lives. The class will meet in the Great Hall and be led by Lydia Gibson. Books may be ordered at the first class session or through the Episcopal Bookshop in advance. Call Elizabeth Wirls at 527-5684.

April in the Emison Room • The Family Sanctuary

Every Wednesday evening of Koinonia parents of young children are invited to be with other parents to share joys and frustrations, victories and setbacks, along with strategies that work to make family life more manageable and fulfilling. Part support group, part therapy, part live comedy, this group, facilitated by the Rev. Ben G. Robertson, IV, will settle jangled nerves and broaden your circle of friends.

Education for Ministry (EfM)/Montgomery Foyer

Education for Ministry is a four-year intensive learning experience for adults.  In a seminar setting, up to eleven people study the Bible, church history, theology, and contemporary church issues.  Learning to think theologically is also a core component of the program. EFM was created at the University of the South, and its curriculum is a distillation of that which is used in the Seminary at the University.  Participants learn the theological disciplines as well as the application of this knowledge in their lives.  Each year's group may include students from more than one year of the program.  Students are asked to commit to one year at a time.  Enrollment takes place during the summer, before the group begins its fall session. For more information about EFM, please contact Martin Jellinek.
