Summer FUNdays for Children at Calvary (age 5-6th grade):
Learning to be God’s Disciples in the World
June 1-August 10

11:10 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Atria Room 203

Music, Singing, Art, Drama, Cooking in the Calvary kitchen, and Outreach Projects these are just a few of the super duper activities planned for Calvary’s Summer FUNdays! A great staff is in place to help the children of Calvary have fun and practice what is means to be God’s disciples in the world. Children ages 5 to rising 6th graders will meet in the Atria-Room 203 at 11:10 a.m. After a gathering prayer, children will divide into two age groups and dive into the exciting activities that await them! And, by-the-way, we are serving great refreshments!

One of the children's outreach projects during Summer FUNdays will help the ministry of the Hospitality HUB . The Rev. Bonnie Malone has given us a list of items that our clients at the HUB need during the summer months. We plan to fill as many "HUB Packs" as we can. Your help would be greatly appreciated!  Items from the following list can be left under the Community Service bulletin board on the second floor.

  • Insect Repellant
  • Soap
  • Toothbrush & Toothpaste
  • Small Pillow (like a neck pillow)
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Bottled Watter
  • Cracker Packs (cheese & crackers, peanut butter & crackers)

Children are encouraged to dress casually for Summer FUNdays since some activities include messy art projects. Children will wear their red Calvary T-shirts each Sunday.  Calvary T-shirts may be purchased for $5.00 each Sunday outside Room 203 during this time.

Children ages 3 to 4 will participate in Bible Story Time with Ms. Terri in the Orgill Room.

Children's Classes of Godly Play/Grow (age 4-5th grade):

Resumes August 24

10:15-11:00 a.m.

As its foundation for faith formation for ages 4 through 12, Calvary uses Godly Play/GROW, an internationally recognized, Montessori-based program developed by an Episcopal priest.

Sunday morning, volunteer-led Godly Play classes follow the 9:00 a.m. worship service and are offered at 10:15 a.m. from September through May.  Classes are located in the Atria-Education Wing on the second floor for ages four through sixth grade.  Bible stories are introduced to younger children in childcare in the first-floor Orgill Room.

In a carefully designed environment, children learn to prepare themselves to hear and listen to God's voice through the presentation of sacred, Old and New Testament stories, parables, and liturgical lessons. Godly Play is devoted to awakening children to their relationship with the Creator, and to helping them grow in their relationship to God and others.

Older children have the opportunity to deepen their spiritual life and relationship to God as they more fully explore Christian beliefs, what it means to be an Episcopalian and how the Church functions. As GROW participants, (God’s Representatives in Our World), there is more of an emphasis on experiencing the work of community and learning where he or she fits into the whole family of God as a participating member.

Godly Play/GROW is the foundation for Rite-13 and Journey to Adulthood programs for older youth.  For more information about Godly Play/GROW, contact Judy Nocifora.
