Adults

Building authentic relationships with God and one another is an important aspect of life at Calvary Episcopal Church.

Small Dinner Groups

Every fall, people sign up to participate in Foyer Groups, made up of 8-12 people, that meet monthly for dinner, September through May. Most Foyer Group gatherings are potluck dinners. Sometimes groups meet at restaurants or go to events like a Redbirds Game. Foyer Groups consist of adults of all ages, single or coupled. To learn more contact Ebet Peeples.

Potluck! Potluck!

Potluck! Potluck! get-togethers are a low-stress, low-commitment, and easy way for adults of all ages, from the youngest YAM (young adults 35 and under) to the grandest OPUS (adults 55 and over) participant, to meet on a monthly basis just for fun and fellowship. Think, a potluck dinner for a potluck of people! Just show up with your favorite appetizer or a contribution for beverages. Potluck! Potluck! is held monthly. Check the Get Involved page regularly to see when the next Potluck! Potluck! gathering will be held. For more information contact Mark Talley.

Episcopal Church Women (ECW)

The guilds of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) provide women an opportunity to get to know one another through specific specific fundraising initaitives that help raise money for unbudgeted ministry needs. Some of these efforts include the United Thank Offering, the Spring Fling that in the past has supported Calvary's teen pilgrimage to Italy, and the Waffle Shop. Small group guild meetings also include education events and fun social activities.

  • The Guild of the Holy Spirit meets on a Monday once a month, at 6:30 p.m., at the home of a parishioner, for dinner and fellowship and to discuss upcoming outreach opportunities.
  • St. Elizabeth's Guild meets the second Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. in the Matthew Room to hear a speaker's presentation and to enjoy lunch with one another.

A member of each guild serves on the ECW Board, which meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at the home of a board member. Contact Beth Hunsberger to learn more about the ECW.

Women of Discovery

Women of Discovery is a monthly discussion group made up of women of all ages and stages of life, who share a quest for God's truth in today's world and the thrill of spiritual discovery. Meetings focus on enlightening presentations, studies, and educational tours. Contact Robyn Mauldin for more information.

Men's Journey Group

The first Tuesday of the month, the Men's Journey Group invites all men to get together for dinner and to hear a guest speaker. The Men's Journey Group usually meets at 5:30 p.m. in the Mural Room, but also has held gatherings at the Cotton, Fire, and Stax Museums. In the summer, the Men's Journey Group encourages participants to attend the Episcopal Churchmen's Conference at the DuBose Conference Center on Monteagle. Once a year, the men throw a holiday dinner party for the women of the church. Contact Mark Johnson to request more information about the Men's Journey Group.

Parents

The Guild of the Christ Child includes moms and dads and focuses its ministry on the children of the parish. This guild plans and hosts annual mixers for parents and family events such as the annual Easter Egg Hunt and fall hay ride and picnic; provides meals for families with new babies; and creates baptismal banners.

College Ministry

Sunday evenings during the Rhodes College school year, a number of Rhodes College students gather with members of the Calvary community for a meal, fellowship and prayer in the Rhodes Conservatory, 2000 N. Parkway. These Episcopal students call themselves the CORE (Community of Rhodes Episcopalians). The CORE meal begins at 5:00 p.m. and is followed by fellowship and prayer, always ending by 6:15 p.m. Learn more about this ministry.

55+ (OPUS)

The OPUS group, made up of people aged 55 and older, meets for fun and fellowship every third Thursday at 5:30 p.m., at a parishioner's home. Contact Linda Spiese to learn more about OPUS.
