CORE: Community of Rhodes Episcopalians

A Ministry to Rhodes College Students

Sunday evenings during the Rhodes College school year, a number of Rhodes College students gather for a meal, fellowship and prayer in the Rhodes Conservatory, 2000 N. Parkway. These Episcopal students call themselves the CORE (Community of Rhodes Episcopalians). The CORE meal begins at 5:00 p.m. and is followed by fellowship and prayer, always ending by 6:15 p.m.

There are several ways to get involved in this ministry. You can...

Bring meals. Calvary volunteers may bring home cooked meals, for 10-12 students. Meals include a main course, drinks, dessert and sometimes a salad or side. This is a fun group activity! Napkins, plates, cups and utensils already are provided. An oven and refrigerator are available. Those bringing meals can meet the Rev. Bonnie Malone at 4:45 p.m. outside the Conservatory, located in the center of three dorms (Voorhies, Trezvant and Townsend). Attendants at the West entrance gate on University can provide a map upon your arrival.

Become a worshipping member of the community. Some members of the Calvary community have found this ministry and the relationships built from it to be of vital importance to their own faith journeys. Others have found that leading innovative worship with the students is meaningful.

Host a Coffee Talk. This ministry is still developing and involves meeting a Rhodes student one-on-one in the Rhodes coffee shop to talk about faith, life struggles, academics or whatever comes up.

Contact the Rev. Bonnie Malone to learn more about this ministry or to get involved.
