Parish Life: Worship and Music

Most parishioners connect to Calvary through liturgy and worship, our surveys confirm.  Three distinct services comprise our Sunday worship:

  • The 7:45 a.m. Traditional Eucharist utilizes Rite I liturgy in a quiet and intimate setting. (Average attendance 20)

  • The 9:00 a.m. Eucharist with Children’s Chapel (our largest service) attracts a strong contingent of families with its upbeat ambiance and music by the Parish Choir, and occasionally by the children’s choir and the hand-bell choir. (Average attendance 225)

  • The 11:15 a.m. Choral Eucharist draws a loyal and widely varied congregation, from young adults to octogenarians. It is a more formal opportunity for worship, using progressive language and enhanced by the glorious and traditional music of the Calvary Choir, a professional vocal ensemble. (Average attendance 91)

  • Prior to the 11:15 a.m. service, laying-on-of-hands for healing is offered at the altar rail.

  • During the summer months, services are offered at 7:45 and 10:00 a.m.

Each Thursday at 11:45 a.m., we offer a short service of Holy Eucharist with Healing Prayers including time for reflection, the laying on of hands, and a Eucharistic Prayer from the Celtic tradition. (Thursday Lunch @ Calvary follows in the dining area).

During Koinonia—Calvary’s Wednesday evening program of fellowship and education—a brief worship service takes place toward the end of dinner. This service provides an opportunity for our youngest Calvary parishioners to participate, as well as an interlude for spiritual focus in the midst of a busy week.

Calvary’s nave is open to the public each weekday. Visitors may offer personal prayers or sit in silence in the pews.

Lay involvement is strong in all our services, with multiple volunteers serving as acolytes, altar guild members, vergers, Eucharistic ministers, lectors, ushers and greeters. A worship/music ministry committee composed of laity, clergy, choir, staff and a vestry representative, meets once monthly.
