Calvary & the Arts

Wednesdays, October 29 - December 10

Great musicians and great chefs are a Memphis tradition. Calvary & the Arts celebrates this tradition with free concerts each Wednesday at noon, October 29-December 10. Join us each week for a unique musical experience, offered in loving memory of Dottie Jones.

Concerts last approximately 45-50 minutes and are followed by lunch ($7.00) cooked by some of downtown Memphis's greatest chefs.

Tom PrestigiacomoOctober 29 - Memphis Jazz Orchestra with Tom Prestigiacomo

The premier big dance band of the Mid-South, the Memphis Jazz Orchestra offers the best of authentic big band arrangements. The MJO salutes the Golden Era of the Big Bands featuring Tom Prestigiacomo (and other surprises!) Jazz up the rest of your day with lunch by Calvary’s own Chef Bill and Chef Kevin, who will feature a menu of sirloin tips in tomato chutney over egg noodles, Parker-House rolls, mixed vegetables, and coconut cake.

Amy LaVereNovember 5 - Amy LaVere (Amy and the Tramps)

“She’s only 25 but Memphis based Amy LaVere is so immersed in rock ‘n’ roll history that she and her upright bass might have time-travelled here from the mid-Fifties,” writes David Smyth of the London (England) Evening Standard. One of Memphis’ hottest local artists, she is described as a country-soul belle from Memphis with her own take on classic Americana. Critics say she will appeal to fans of Norah Jones and anyone who loves Robert Plant’s and Alison Krauss’ Raising Sand. Great food by Lolo’s Table completes this trip through time.

Thursday, November 6 - The Snowman (Children's Special Concert)

The SnowmanThis is a Thursday concert offered for school children. It is also open to the public. Last year’s wildly successful Peter & the Wolf concert gave us the idea to offer a new concert specifically for school children. This year MSO Resident Conductor James Feddeck will lead the orchestra in The Snowman by Howard Blake. Call early, seats are limited. Although a Calvary & the Arts lunch is not available after this concert, Calvary’s Downtown Table Fellowship lunch is served from 12:15-1:15 p.m.

Kirk Whalum at Calvary Episcopal ChurchNovember 12 - Kirk Whalum

Kirk Whalum and his band are no strangers to Calvary & the Arts. For years thousands of listeners have celebrated  their music and message. As C&A celebrates its 30th anniversary join us to be inspired. “Lunch by the Rendezvous,” is the only answer to the question, “what better could follow Kirk?”

Kallen EsperianNovember 19 - Kallen Esperian

Kallen again brings her beauty and elegance to the C&A stage as we continue to celebrate our anniversary. Her talent and joie d’vive bring life to everything she sings. Revel, as we always do, in the elegance. Mac Edwards as Himself serving his signature Grits and Grillades for lunch.

November 26 - No Concert - Happy Thanksgiving!

December 3 - "Christmas Concert"

Memphis BoyChoir and Chamber Choir

After too many years away, the BoyChoir and Chamber Choir return to the C&A stage to bring us music of the Christmas season. Under the baton of Dr. Geoff Ward, their unique sound and literature will send us off in the spirit of the season. Join us afterwards for hearty fare for the season prepared by Calvary’s own Chef Bill and Chef Kevin.

James Feddeck of MSODecember 10 - "Christmas POPS"

concert with orchestra

There is no more appropriate way to close this anniversary season than with the annual “Christmas Pops” concert. In our continuing Christmas tradition, Memphis Symphony Orchestra Resident Conductor James Feddeck brings us music of the season. Highlights include The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and The Arabian Dance from Nutcracker Suite by Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky and a carol sing.
