Let no one despise your youth, but set
the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith,
in purity. (I Timothy 4:12)
Youth in grades 6-12 are vital members of
Calvary’s community. They have many
opportunities to participate in the life of the church. Youth serve an
integral role as acolytes, lectors, and Eucharistic Ministers in the 9:00 and
11:15 a.m. services on Sunday mornings.
Other opportunities for Episcopal youth include
participating in the Diocesan Youth Council (DYC) events, being leaders within
the Happening community in West Tennessee, and going to various camps,
retreats, and mission trips.
Sunday Morning Sunday School
Grades 9-12/Room 301
Grades 6-8/Room 302
Youth in grades 6-12 gather each Sunday morning for a time of fellowship
and formation. Using the Episcopal
Curriculum for Youth, our Sunday School program strives to enable young people
to develop a mature, consequential faith through scripture, community building,
and relationships with mentors. By
exploring themes from scripture and our daily lives, we are able to focus on
how we grow into our faith. Our time
together includes prayer, reflection, and many fun activities.
EYC (Episcopal Youth Community)
On Sundays young people in grades 6-12 gather
jointly with our friends from the Church of the Holy Communion for a time of dinner,
fellowship, worship, and reflection. We regularly play together, pray and
engage in outreach to the Memphis community.
EYC also has special events such as retreats, mission trips, lock-ins,
and field trips.
LIFT: a time of worship and fellowship
Every Wednesday Night 6:45-8:00 Grades
6-12
Each Wednesday, young people from Calvary, St. John's, Grace-St. Luke and Holy
Communion meet at the St. John's Parish Life Center for a time of fellowship,
innovative worship, and reflection in large and small groups. We gather
at 6:45 and begin to worship at 7:00. Bring your friends and experience a
mid-week LIFT with us!
DYC (Diocesan Youth Council)
The DYC, comprised primarily of students, is an
organization whose mission is to sponsor youth events throughout the Diocese of
West Tennessee. These include Fall Kickoff, Bishop's Bash, the Feast of Lights,
and Junior High Spring Fling. Calvary's youth are active participants and
several serve on the council.
Happening
Happening is
a renewal weekend held twice annually for Episcopal youth in grades 10-12. The
weekend provides teens with a way to explore their spirituality while living
and learning with others their age who want to share the faith they've found in
Jesus Christ. Teens lead all the activities, including small group discussion,
large group activities, and singing. The environment is open and honest, as the
adults present serve in the background roles of cooks and chaperones. Young people from Calvary are very active leaders
within the Happening community.
